Down syndrome kids to get a playhouse.(Neighbor)

Byline: Kimbriell Granderson Daily Herald Staff Writer Hoffman Estates will soon have a place where children and adults with Down syndrome can congregate. The Hoffman Estates village board on Monday unanimously approved a special permit for GiGi’s Playhouse to operate at 1069 W. Golf Road, in the Brandess Center West.

The facility is expected to open in late October, which is Down Syndrome Awareness month. The nonprofit resource center will allow patrons to be creative, while improving their muscle tone and social skills through various methods of therapy. At the center, …

Fight against disability gets bigger Families, friends gather at Lambs Farm for annual Down syndrome benefit.(News)

Byline: Madhu Krishnamurthy Daily Herald Staff Writer Libertyville High School junior Blake Peacock embodies the motto "it’s about ability and not disability." He has Down syndrome, but the 17-year-old Special Olympian hasn’t let that stop him from pursuing his dreams. Peacock has taken up alpine skiing and tennis and is part of his high school’s swim team, gymnastics team, marching band and choir.
