Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Finds Gene against Alzheimer’s, Down Syndrome.

Feb. 1–Sumitomo Chemical Co. has found a gene that could lessen the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome, a major Japanese daily reported Sunday.

The major Japanese chemical company is seeking patents on the gene, code-named NXF, in and outside Japan, and hopes to develop medicine based on the gene, the Asahi Shimbun said.
