Health Discovery Corporation (OTC BB: HDVY)
announced today that they have filed patent applications covering newly
discovered patterns of biomarkers in several diseases, including Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection, leukemia, and Down’s Syndrome. The
Company filed a United States patent application and a Patent Cooperation
Treaty (PCT) patent application entitled “A METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING
BIOMARKERS USING FRACTAL GENOMICS MODELING.” The PCT application reserves
the rights of Heath Discovery Corporation to file the patent application in
more than 80 foreign countries that are members to the treaty. These
patent applications are related to genomic and proteomic analysis using
Health Discovery Corporation’s Fractal Genomics Modeling (FGM) technology
to identify biomarkers to develop treatments, diagnoses or prognoses of
diseases by exploiting the map of interactions and the causal relationships
between genes and proteins discovered by this technology.
With the previous acquisition of the Fractal Genomics patent portfolio and
the recent acquisition of the rights to the Support Vector Machine and
associated technologies patent portfolio, the Company’s intellectual
property portfolio now includes over 75 issued and pending patents. These
new applications, in conjunction with the other issued, pending, and
provisional patent applications, licensing agreements, joint ownership
positions, and proprietary technologies significantly increase the value of
Health Discovery Corporation’s Intellectual Property portfolio. Health
Discovery Corporation is continuing to pursue an aggressive intellectual
property strategy, thereby strengthening its position as a leader in
“First-Phase Biomarker Discovery.”
According to Stephen D. Barnhill, M.D., Chairman and CEO of Health
Discovery Corporation “The filing of these patent applications for our
newly discovered biomarkers in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
infection, leukemia, and Down’s Syndrome demonstrates our ability to
accomplish all aspects of ‘First-Phase’ Discovery. In a relatively short
period of time, our scientific team identified clinically important medical
problems, contractually licensed world-wide exclusive rights or joint
ownership to the biomarker discovery with internationally recognized
medical centers, completed the biomarker discovery using our patent
protected state-of-the-art technologies and have now patent protected our
discovery.” Dr. Barnhill continued, “These new patents add to the very
significant and mature patent portfolio already owned by the company. This
valuable patent portfolio includes some of the pioneer issued patents in
machine learning techniques used for diagnostic and drug discovery.”
Health Discovery Corporation (www.healthdiscoverycorp.com/) is a systems
biology-oriented biomarker and pathway discovery company, which provides
any and all aspects of “First Phase” biomarker discovery. This includes
expert assessment of the clinical problem, determination of the clinical
trial set-up, the proper selection and procurement of high-quality
specimens for analysis, an analytical evaluation of the specimens through
laboratory tests to produce the relevant accurate clinical data, and the
mathematical evaluation of the data using state-of-the-art computational
tools to produce an accurate identification of the important genes and
proteins and the pathways in which they interact. Health Discovery
Corporation was established to provide both pharmaceutical and diagnostic
companies with a broad range of analytical and decision support solutions
to accelerate effective diagnostic and drug discovery. Founded in September
2003, the Company has offices in Texas, Georgia and California. For more
